MISS LAVA Presents “Woe Warrior” Video Featuring Portuguese Biker Cristiano Fernandes; Under A Black Sun Out Today On Small Stone Recordings

Lisbon, Portugal-based psychedelic rock unit MISS LAVA today unveil their new video for “Woe Warrior.” The track comes by way of the band’s Under A Black Sun full-length, out today on Small Stone Recordings.

Carrying a darker and heavier emotional weight than their previous outings, the band’s fifth album is the first record with drummer Pedro Gonçalves and, marking their 20th anniversary, celebrates the band’s longevity. “It has been a hell of a ride since we started rehearsing in a small studio in Lisbon back in 2005,” confirms guitarist K. Raffah. “Having this record come out twenty years later with a partner like Small Stone is the best thing we could wish for. Now we just need to get out there and play these songs live everywhere we can!”

More than a video clip, “Woe Warrior” is a short biker movie created by Manuel Portugal and features renown Portuguese biker Cristiano Fernandes. Manuel Portugal is the co-founder of Lisbon Motorcycle Film Fest, a guitar player that has shared the stage with MISS LAVA many times in other bands, and a professional photographer and videographer for some of the main “motor” brands of the world such as Range Rover or Honda and many biker crews and events. The video was shot on the beautiful West Coast of Portugal, the perfect scenery for this “ride.”

Manuel Portugal shares his experience, “It’s a pleasure for me to take photos and videos for MISS LAVA; we have a long-standing relationship of shared experiences. Initially, it was about sharing the same stages, and later it evolved into producing some visuals for the band. This time, the idea was to move away from the ‘performance video.’ After some brainstorming, we landed on the ‘road movie’ concept and the use of motorcycles as a way to explore the character’s restlessness and inner turmoil. A special mention goes to Cristiano Fernandes, whose magnificent riding skills I was already aware of, but who truly excelled in his acting.”

Adds Raffah, “Being under a negative influence can be a daily battle. One has to become a true warrior and face the many enemies hidden in the darkest corners of ourselves. But the road that leads to victory can also be a meaningful voyage of self-discovery. We hope that this beautiful movie by our friend Manuel can inspire everyday warriors to move beyond their struggle.”

Under A Black Sun was recorded and engineered once again with Miguel “Veg” Marques, who handled the band’s previous record, Doom Machine. The record was produced by MISS LAVA and Marques, mixed by Steve Lehane, mastered by Chris Goosman, and includes guest keys on “Blue Sky On Mars,” “Dark Tomb Nebula,” “Elara,” “Evil Eye Of The Witch,” and “Woe Warrior” by Marques, guest vocals on “Elara” by Alexandra Quintas “Bebé,” and artwork by João Filipe.

Over the years, MISS LAVA has played live in clubs and festivals in the UK, Spain, Germany, and, of course, Portugal. The band has shared stages with the likes of Queens Of The Stone Age, Slash, Graveyard, Ufomammut, Greenleaf, Kyuss Lives!, Fu Manchu, Valient Thorr, Entombed, Truckfighters, and many more abd has even made a one-off appearance at the legendary Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles. Now a five-piece with two guitar players, MISS LAVA has confirmed shows throughout the Spring and Summer months with more to be announced in the weeks to come.
